Homeschool module 012012: Supersize our brain!
It’s a cold Sunday morning. It brings such a good memory. The only time we ever had our breakfast at McDonald was a few months ago and it was a rainy morning. The kiddos crave for McMuffin, Hash Brown and the ‘happy’ ambience at warong Mek Jono. But today, things are going to change…hopefully.
Today’s Homeschool module is…movie time. Presenting…Supersize Me!
So far, Muhammad and Musa survived. Too boring for Maryam and Sarah only ran back to watch when she heard catchy sound effects or music from the movie. Their assignments nevertheless, including Sarah is to write a movie review in their blogs. They may end up not wanting McD anymore or they might say I’m lovin it more than ever. For us, it’s the learning process that counts.

We love movies and we make sure we learn from all movies that we watch. We watch most of our movies in the car although it made the dizzy but it’s the best time to watch and brainwash with our ideologies. Pausing every now and then to elaborate and to answer mostly Musa’s out of context curiousity.
Can’t wait to read on what they have to say about the movie. Will there be a paradigm shift? or will they still wish that their next meal will be at McDonald’s?
Karate training at home – Full Gi
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Since we moved to Kota Damansara our kids have not had the chance to regularly attend their Karate sessions. It’s quite a loooong drive, almost boleh jama’ qasar. We try to make sure they still remember the moves (ka ta) so that they can attend the next grading.
The moment the full gi is donned, the feel and aura of Karate helps them to practice seriously. especially with the sound of the gi everytime they punch and kick. Sarah hasn’t been a formal student yet, hence she’s quite free to wear whatever she likes. Don’t ask about the green belt she’s wearing.
The best part is the teaching session, Musa helps Maryam and Muhammad handles Sarah… ‘ Sempai ‘ as they call it. The best way to understand what they have learnt is to teach. We had fun kiyai-ing…
Back to Nature – Dari tanah ke tanah jua

How Kids Understand Signs
2012 Mission: Off to school
It’s the first day of school, January 3, 2012.
The house is quiet except for the whirring of our loyal washing machine in the kitchen balcony. I hear the rumbling of morning traffic from NKVE. I catch voices of kids from neighbouring apartments. Nevertheless inside, the house is serene.
The homeschooling troop has gone to school!
It’s official. MuMuMaSa (the acronym) are officially students of Akademi Darul Huffaz. As the name suggests, they spend half of their day reciting, memorizing the Quran. For the little one, she is on Iqra’ 3 but she catches bits and pieces of Surah Yaasin.
Learning by catching – how natural for kids, right?
Why the change from homeschooling to normal schooling, I ask myself.
“Going to a school is part of our homeschooling syllabus.”
Well, as our nature of business evolves, family routine changes too.
In our family mission to groom a hafiz & hafizah (a person who memorizes the Quran), we have to delegate the ‘guided memorization task’ to a professional. Let the experts do the job, and we follow-through at home, in the car, outside the classroom.
They will be home by 3 pm. With stories to share, I bet!

Homeschooling progressing :)
Yup, i’ve been absent from the blogging world since I made a ‘hijrah’ to FB.
Muhammad, Musa and Maryam attended ESQ for Kids last school holiday. Recommended!
Now, their lessons are mostly ‘Do-it-yourself’ projects. Latest: making video clips for Maher Zain’s songs.
Will upload soon
ps: I’d love to meet up and swap stories with fellow moms – PM me at FB (coachsha).

Parents: This is Reality!

*Side story:
Today, Ridz and I went to one secondary school nearby our area to share an online learning program with a teacher. Of course, the Bilik Guru was abuzz with hustle and bustle of teachers coming and out. Of all the teachers in the room, only TWO were interested to listen. Well, can’t blame them. Maybe they thought we were just another salespeople promoting ‘whatever’ products.
So, while presenting Score A to them, one passed by and made a remark, “Ahh…they will never use it. Main games aje nanti” while others showed no interest at all. Except the two teachers who were listening intently.
My thought: Yes, kids play. Yes, kids go online. This is their generation. The Digital Generation.
My question: Who should monitor them? Who should guide them? Who should take interest in what they do online?
Like it or not, internet is here to stay. Cybercafes will be mushrooming (business maaaa).
The choice is yours. Let them drown in the dangerous current, or train them to ‘surf’ and keep an eye on them.
Parents, EMPOWER YOURSELF. ACTIVATE YOUR KIDS and TEENS.
It’s my obligation to share!
Yours,
